Our Official 2020 Judge!
The TIGFT wishes to thank Mr. Ian Harford, Former IGFA International Representative (Grenada) and past 4 Time TIGFT Judge for accepting our invitation to be the Official Judge and Weigh Master of the 25th TIGFT in May 2020.
Ian baited his first hook well before his teenage years in South Trinidad and blossomed to being a Charter fisherman in Grenada. Ian also served as Grenada’s IGFA International Representative for 6 years and as a committee member of the Spice Island Billfish Tournament which held its 50th event in January 2019.
The TIGFT is excited and honored to have Mr. Harford judge our 25 event.
Ian Harford’s pre-teen and teenage years growing up in Pointe-a-Pierre, Trinidad, ignited his interest in sportfishing. The bay at the Yacht Club adjoining the main refinery jetties held Tarpon & Snook close to shore with Cobia and Jacks found around the ship mooring and filling points offshore. As a young boy hooking and fighting his first Tarpon was an experience never forgotten especially on the basic equipment available 40 years ago. After moving to live in Grenada in 1986, he was soon exposed to great fishing available there, both coastal and offshore. Along with his brother in law, he formed a charter operation in the early 90’s offering both fishing and offshore island trips and eventually exclusively fishing charters concentrating on offshore. His involvement in fishing led to many years serving as part of the committee for the Spice Island Billfish Tournament, the longest running tournament in the Southern Caribbean which celebrated the 50th anniversary of the event in 2019. He also had the honor of serving as the IGFA representative for Grenada for 6 years before retiring due to time constraints in the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan’s devastation of Grenada. Mr. Harford is quoted as saying, “I am honored to have been asked to be the judge once again at the TIGFT especially at the milestone of its 25th anniversary and wish all participants tight lines and safe travels”.
